Grandmothers Rule

August 17, 2010

It’s my grandmother’s birthday today.  She would have been ninety-three today.  Happy birthday Meme.  My grandmother was a great inspiration to me in many ways.  One of them was the art of cooking and entertaining.  A home economics teacher (she also taught 4th grade), my grand-mother instilled in me the love of cooking.  Two weeks ago, I made plum jelly – a summer ritual of my grandmothers, and I could almost sense her presence as I went through each step.  I am not sure it is quite as good as hers, but I definitely put love into as I thought of her.  To grandmothers everywhere – thank you.

New Year

December 30, 2009

As I look back on the past week and reflect on my blessings, I take a moment to be grateful for 2009 and look forward to 2010.  Kookie Kultura is now in its infancy and like anything that is new it requires attention and care. As steward of this new business, I am committed to its cultivation.   I will look for new ways to create value and meaningful content to those who are interested in the product line.

So on the eave of a new decade, I find myself contemplating what is the vision and possibility for today and the next 367 days.   I appreciate the small incremental wins I have experienced and use these as fuel to move forward.  I take the best and leave the rest.

And so it is 🙂

A Beautiful Day

December 19, 2009

The air outside is crisp and there are leaves from a Chinese Elm littering the sidewalk in yellow and green.   Today is my personal countdown to Christmas/Holidays as I prepare the house for my family.  As with most holidays since my maternal grandmother passed away I am the designated cook,  something I truly don’t mind as I love to cook for the holidays.

Yesterday was a day of being grateful and thankful for the love and support in my life.  I truly am blessed in so many ways.  I received a card with my one year old niece’s cutie pie face and it just made me smile.

Unique Los Angeles Supercool

December 8, 2009

I had a fun time this weekend with my booth at the Unique Los Angeles holiday show.  People were very nice and complimentary of the kookie cutters.  My neighbors who I shared space with were two very cool vendors.  One has some absolutely adorable tees for small kids with animals http://www.preciousfewonearth.com/ and another had soft plush and blankets for infants http://www.moncalin.com/home.htm.  We did some exchanges and I ended up with some cool stuff for my niece Asha who just turned 1 in October.  I even had the owner who carries my product now come by and say hello.  Her store is called Marz and is located in South Pasadena – viva la independent store owner.  It is a very cool gift and stationary store located on Mission near Fair Oaks.  I was not surprise to find her checking out the show.

This is a way old picture of cutie pie.  Look at that face.   I can’t wait until we can bake cookies together – already coming up with an Asha special kookie.

Just A Thought

December 3, 2009

Think what a better world it would be if we all, the whole world, had cookies and milk about three o`clock every afternoon and then lay down on our blankets for a nap.

Gratitude

December 2, 2009

I just realized how blessed I am.  I have wonderful and supportive friends.  A great family that have my back.  A loving partner who encourages me.  I am healthy (knock wood), I live in a place that makes me feel comfortable and relaxed.  Outside it is around 70 degrees and its December.

I am especially thankful right now for Gabby C. who set up my blog for me.  She is awesome.
